How Maps Work: Representation, Visualization, and Design by Alan M. MacEachren, This book is the first systematic integration of cognitive and semiotic approaches to understanding maps as powerful, abstract, and synthetic spatial representations. Presenting a perspective built on four decades of cartographic research, it explores how maps work at multiple levels--from the cognitive to the societal--and provides a cohesive picture of how the many representational choices inherent in mapping interact with the processing of information and construction of knowledge. MDULMDNMUtilizing this complex perspective, the author shows how the insights derived from a better understanding of maps can be used in future map design. Although computers now provide the graphic tools to produce maps of similar or better quality than previous manual techniques, they seldom incorporate the conceptual tools needed to make informed symbolization and design decisions. The search for these conceptual tools is the basis for MDULHow Maps WorkMDNM.

Proj construction - In algebraic geometry, Proj is a construction analogous to the spectrum-of-a-ring construction of affine schemes, that produces objects with the typical properties of projective spaces and projective varieties. It is a fundamental tool in scheme theory. Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art - The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art is a museum devoted to the art contained in picture books and especially children's books. The museum, whose construction was completed in 2002, is adjacent to the campus of Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts. Clamp (tool) - A clamp is a device to hold or secure an object, to prevent it from moving. In the United Kingdom and Australia, the term cramp is often used in place of clamp when the tool is for temporary use in positioning components in construction and woodworking; thus a G cramp or a sash cramp but a wheel clamp or a surgical clamp. Picture-in-picture - Picture in Picture (PiP) allows you to watch more than one TV program(channel) at the same time on television sets or other devices. With PiP feature of TV, one program will be displayed on the entire TV screen, and another program or programs will be displayed in individual smaller squares on the screen.
